In today’s world, every single nation, state and local governing body are trying hard to bring down the pollution levels by running citizen awareness programs, strict pollution control guidelines for industries, vehicles and etc., and taking responsibility of this process. There are success stories of declined pollution levels in some corner of this world too.
Our great AP government too took charge and felt responsible as same as their counterparts in the world. Color category of industries (Red, Orange & Green) by their pollution levels. Guidelines are written in papers and website for all kind of pollution, i.e., Air, Water, Noise and etc. They aware of all acts right from Water Act, 1974 to Recycled Plastic usage rules, 1998. That’s fantastic and what more a responsible government can think beyond. But, what if there is something beyond this to do?
WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction, i.e., Atom, Hydrogen, Anthrax and all other hell lot of powerful bombs which can kill hundreds and thousands of people in one go), the whole world is talking about it today and some nations took serious action to stop misusing it, to stop mass destruction. We know all the stories about it. But, the stories we forget to focus is more powerful weapons than WMD. That is CWMD (Citizen Weapons of Mass Destruction), confused! Check this:
Citizens lost their lives or affected by WMD/anti-social elements in Hyderabad are lesser than citizens lost their lives or affected by pollution is. Then why can’t we say it is a weapon of mass destruction possessed by a citizen.
See how irresponsible we are at this issue. Vehicles, industries, garbage and anything that creates/causes pollution is holding/happening by a citizen. A normal citizen like you and me, who never checks their vehicles pollution levels, if aware that his/her vehicle is causing pollution also never took needed action to keep their vehicle pollution free and in tune. Most percentage of this vehicles are auto rickshaw’s, who fill their fuel tanks, engine oil’s with cheap fuel sold by roadside shops, where this fuels are mixed with kerosene and other cheap oil’s. A lot of vehicles causing pollution not only possessed by normal citizens but also with our honorable Government’s also. Government vehicles like APSRTC busses, civil supplies Lorries, some Rakshak’s and some old jeeps. Check the above picture of APSRTC bus, there are a big number of same vehicles plying on roads now.
Industries, now a day’s many honest industrialists are keeping their factories/units pollution free by feeling responsible towards society. But, what all are? I can say no and you can say no. Check the above pictures of industries releasing heavy smoke into air, only God knows what smoke it is and how it affects the health of citizens. The interesting thing is this industries release smoke only between 10pm to 6am, when and where there are no citizens and officers can keep vigilance and can identify there is a smoke release as the smoke mixes in darkness or clouds. And some of these industries are in between of residential areas, established when the city was not expanded like now. But, I don’t think that our responsible officers are not aware of this. Ayyo!
Garbage, for garbage control we must appreciate the officers who is taking care of clearing and dumping timely. But, need focus on open nalaas like in Ashoknagar, Amberpet, Begumpet and many more areas, where the residential colonies are there beside this open nalaas.
The other day, I was not feeling well and visited my doctor. After many examinations and questions he wrote some medicines, advised me to practice Yoga and Meditation for cure and importantly as precaution he advised me to wear mask to rid of pollution, which is the main reason for my illness. As a sales person I spend 5-6 hours a day on roads and had habit of wearing woolen cap to cover ears, air filter for nose and a handkerchief for mouth, leaving only my eyes unmasked and above I wear a helmet from years. As per my doctor’s advice what more precautions I can take while on road. If a person like me who wears all this gadgets and still effected by pollution, what about other who even don’t care to wear a helmet for their safety sake.
“For every illness there is a treatment and any organ can be replaced in this advanced medical technology, if that seriousness is high. So, no need to worry about the pollution”. If officials/authorities want us to understand the above statement and compromise for pollution, as there is a cure. Then cure at what cost and what risk? We always believe that precaution is better than cure. We heard that there is Pollution control board! I/we understand that whoever wants to understand their responsibility, they already got it.
Please give back our right to live pollution free.
